When a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? This is an old question. One that has been passed down from Father to Daughter, Mother to Son for generations. The point is to ponder the reality of things that go unobserved. However, I just wanted to let you know that this is a moot point.

You see, no events go unobserved. Every single act is seen, every word is heard. It is true that some get the eyes of history—the large masses, huge crowds, staring up at them. Some remain in quiet obscurity. Only viewed by humble creatures, barely catching a glimpse out of the corner of their eye. Other things are observed by… well, other things. Those unseen but not quite unfelt forces. The ones that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and let you know you are not alone. Some events are seen by you.

In the oldest stone in the first world, there are two simple words, a single command to which all beings must obey. “Bear Witness.” A sacred trust, a personal responsibility bestowed upon all at birth. This covenant began before names and will continue until the seas become ash and the sands become glass. Until the night wheels and the stars fall. Until the Dawn Doesn’t Come.

Now it is your turn. Come close and listen well.
